A teacher in the Alief (Texas) district has been charged with punching a second-grade student who was disrupting class.
KHOU-TV says that Lisa Allison, 48, a teacher at Landis Elementary School in Houston, is charged with felony injury to a child. The incident allegedly happened last month.
Allison told investigators she ordered the boy to leave her classroom because he was making noises. She said he then began kicking lockers outside the classroom.
A surveillance camera shows Allison following the boy to the hallway and grabbing him by hand. When he yanked his hand away, the teacher grabbed him by the back and punched him “with a closed fist,” according to court documents.
The video shows Allison forcing the boy to the floor and sitting on top of him. That’s where school administrators found her and ordered her to get off the boy. Administrators called police and they began an investigation.
District officials say the teacher was immediately put on leave and will not return to the school.
