The chief technology officer in the Clint (Texas) Independent School District has been charged with stealing about 150 iPads and reselling them,
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office reports that Philip Acosta, 37, has been charged with theft of more than $30,000 but less than $150,000. He is free on a $75,000 bond.
says the Clint district reported more than 150 iPads missing from schools in the past three months. Detectives and deputies found several of the IPads, and Acosta was positively identified as the person selling the stolen IPads.
Authorities executing a search warrant for Acosta's home and car found several iPads there. Investigators have recovered about 100 iPads, all linked to Acosta.
The El Paso Times reports that a special board meeting has been scheduled later this week to discuss Acosta's employment, says Laura Cade, a spokeswoman for the district. Acosta has worked at the Clint district for about three years.
The Clint district is about 25 miles east of El Paso and has about 11,800 students on 14 campuses.
