A 17-year-old girl has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of her classmate at a high school in Michigan.

WDIV-TV reports that Tanaya Lewis, 17, is being held without bond on a first-degree murder charge.

Prosecutors say Lewis fatally stabbed Danyna Gibson, 16, Wednesday morning in a classroom at Fitzgerald High School in Warren.

Police say a fight erupted between the two girls over a boy. Gibson tried to flee from Lewis, but was stabbed multiple times with a kitchen-style steak knife and suffered a punctured lung.

No other students were injured.

Police recovered the knife and are trying to determine how it was brought into the school.
