Student fatally stabbed at Raleigh, North Carolina, high school
One student was stabbed to death and another was wounded in a fight at a high school in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The Raleigh News & Observer reports that the altercation occurred Monday morning in a gymnasium at Southeast Raleigh High School. A 15-year-old student died, and a 16-year-old was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
A 14-year-old student has been charged in a juvenile petition with murder.
Authorities declined to identify the suspect and the victims.
Cherelle McLaughlin, the mother of the 14-year-old charged with murder, says the stabbing stemmed from a fight between students and her older daughter,
After the fight erupted in the gym, a school resource officer radioed for help at 11:01 a.md. Videos circulated on social media appeared to show a fight breaking out between two students outside the gym and then flowing into the gym as more students followed.
Classes at Southeast Raleigh High were canceled Monday and Tuesday.
