An elementary school principal in Indianapolis was killed and two children were seriously injured Tuesday afternoon when a school bus jumped a curb.
WISH-TV reports that the crash occurred around 2:45 p.m. at Amy Beverland Elementary School in the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township. Fire officials say the bus lurched over a curb for an unknown reason and hit the victims.
School Supt. Shawn Smith announced later Tuesday afternoon that the adult victim in the crash was Beverland Principal Susan Jordan. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
"It's very, very sad that I have to report that the fatality was a great educator, Ms. Susan Jordan, principal of Amy Beverland," Smith told reporters. "We lost a great educator today."
Authorities say Jordan was struck as she was pushing children out of the way of the bus.
