A 5-year-old girl has been killed after a school bus left the road and crashed into a tree in Georgia.
The Associated Press reports that the Liberty County (Ga.) school district bus was on its pick-up route Tuesday morning when it crashed near Gumbranch, Ga.
WSAV-TV identified the girl as Cambria Shuman. Authorities have not disclosed which school she attended. The driver, Evelyn Rodriguez, 62, and more than 20 other children were injured in the crash.
The area is home to the Army post Fort Stewart and is about 50 miles southwest of Savannah.
The Georgia State Patrol is investigating. The agency says in a release that the driver lost control of the bus, veered into a ditch and slammed into a tree. The impact caused the bus roof to cave in on the passengers.
The driver had been trapped inside the bus, and she was hospitalized after emergency responders freed her.
