Student wounded in shooting at Erie, Pa., high school

The student at Erie High School has non-life-threatening injuries; a suspect fled the building and is at large.

One student has been wounded in a shooting at Erie High School in Erie, Pa.

Police responded after multiple shots were fired Tuesday morning inside the school, reports Erie News Now

The victim was treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and was in stable condition. 

The shooting suspect fled the building and was not in custody, officials said.

Police did not release details on where the shooting occurred, but Mary Theuerkauf, president of the Erie Education Association said it occurred in a school hallway. Students and teachers witnessed the shooting, reports GoErie.com.

Classes have been canceled for the rest of the week.

Superintendent Brian Polito released a statement:

“We are devastated and angered by this senseless tragedy, and we are all hoping for the full and speedy recovery of the student involved,” said Polito.
