Construction worker killed in accident at University of Georgia

Authorities say the man was working on a steam line on the Athens campus when he was crushed by a forklift.

A construction worker at the University of Georgia in Athens was killed Friday in a forklift accident on campus.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports the accident occurred shortly before 10 a.m. Friday at the university's Adult Education Center.

Athens-Clarke County Coroner Sonny Wilson identified the worker as Trevor Wilkie, 36, of Athens. Medical authorities say Wilkie died of massive injuries caused when he was crushed by a forklift.

Police said Wilkie was an employee with IMI Construction in Watkinsville. He was working on a steam line project on campus when he was hit by the forklift
