Fire destroys building at Pennsylvania Catholic school

The multi-alarm blaze destroyed the building that housed preK, kindergarten, 1st and 3rd grades at St. Francis of Assisi School in Springfield Township.

A massive multi-alarm fire destroyed a Catholic school building in Springfield Township, Pennsylvania.

WPVI-TV reports plumes of heavy smoke billowed Monday afternoon from the roof of one of the buildings housing the St. Francis of Assisi School.

No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

"At this time, the fire appears controlled to one building" the Archdiocese of Philadelphia in a statement. "Efforts are already underway to locate an alternate learning location for those who will be affected by the loss of classroom space."

The damaged building houses grades preK, kindergarten, grade 1, and grade 3. About 150 students from that building are affected.

Students in grades 2 and 4 through 8 attend classes in another building on the campus.
