Students from Walt Disney Elementary School in Alvin, Texas, will return to class next week at a temporary campus after a tornado caused significant damage to their school building.

Fox 26 Houston reports that the Alvin school board has approved a plan to relocate staff and students at the former Alvin Elementary campus. The school is on winter break; students are scheduled to return on Jan. 7, and staff are scheduled to return on Jan. 6.

Operations and maintenance teams are working to prepare the temporary campus.

The school sustained significant damage, including extensive roof damage, on Dec. 28 when an EF-2 tornado tore through Brazoria County.

The district says the storm damage caused many educators to lose their teaching materials and items that they bought with their own money to support their classrooms.
