No one was injured in Sunday incident at Velasquez Elementary in the Lamar district.

A 20-year-old man is facing multiple charges in Texas after shooting a handgun from the rooftop of a Lamar Consolidated Independent School District elementary school building.

The Katy Rancher reports that Christian Peiper, 20, was arrested Sunday morning at William Velasquez Elementary in Richmond, Texas, and faces charges of criminal mischief, deadly conduct, possession of a stolen firearm and trespassing.

A news release from the city of Rosenberg says police received to a report of a person with a gun and arrived at the school at 8:11 a.m. Sunday. Witnesses said that someone atop the school roof was firing gunshots, and officers took Peiper into custody. No injuries occurred during the incident, though some minimal property damage to the school was discovered.

"Though the incident happened on a school campus, it is not believed that at this point the Pieper's intent was to target the school or students," the city's statement said.

The Lamar district says that even though the incident was believed to be "a random act of mischief," police will be on hand today at Velasquez Elementary for the first day of school "to ease concerns of parents."

"After discussions with law enforcement, we're confident our campuses are safe and secure," the district says in a news release.
