10 Catholic schools in suburban Buffalo will close

Diocese blames low enrollment and inadequate finances

Officials in the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, N.Y., have announced that 10 suburban elementary schools will be shut down in June. The Buffalo News reports that the affected campuses are have low enrollments and are struggling with finances. The closings will reduce to 41 the number of Catholic elementary schools in the eight counties of the diocese – down from 86 a decade ago.

MORE: The schools that are closing have an average enrollment of just 115 students. The closings affect 1,154 students and 195 teachers and staff. (The Buffalo News)
