Rutgers wants $425 million from state for facilities construction

University has okayed $634 million in projects on 3 campuses, but needs state money before construction can proceed.

Rutgers University is asking the state of New Jersey to provide at least $425 million for renovation and construction projects that are on the drawing board for all three of its campuses. NorthJersey.com says university officials have not ruled out passing part of the cost along to students. The total cost of the projects is estimated at most of the $634 million. Rutgers’ governing board has approved the projects – including new science buildings in Piscataway, Newark and Camden — but university officials say they can't move forward without state money.
