Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.) district wants $33.7 million upgrade in campus security

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg County (N.C.) school board is asking county commissioners to allocate $33.7 million for cameras, fences, screening systems and other school safety improvements. The commissioner are expected to decide on the request next month. The Charlotte Observer says the district wants to add intercom systems to all 159 schools; security cameras with DVD recording at all elementary and middle schools; and 8-foot chain-link fencing around school campuses and mobile classrooms.
