Audit leads East St. Louis (Ill.) district to curtail busing

From The Belleville News-Democrat: East St. Louis, Ill., school leaders are trying to find a way to legally provide buses for students who lost their transportation due to the results of an audit. According to state law, bus transportation is required only for students who live more than a mile and a half from school or who have to negotiate dangerous obstacles. The financially strapped school district, which is under the control of the state of Illinois, learned after an investigation that more than 1,000 families may have been getting bus service that they shouldn't have been receiving.
