29 additional universities team with company offering free online courses

Coursera says it now has partnerships with 62 universities on 4 continents.

Coursera, one of the leading companies teaming with universities to offer massive open online courses (MOOCs), says it has added 29 institutions to the "Coursera community."

"This is an extremely exciting announcement for us, not only because we’re nearly doubling the amount of schools offering courses on our platform, but also because of the diverse learning opportunities that these schools will bring to our students," the company's blog says.

Coursera says the additional schools will provide access to 92 courses. In all, the company offers 322 course, according to its web site.

Sixteen of the 29 universities are outside the United States. The 13 U.S. schools joining Coursera: California Institute of the Arts; Case Western Reserve University; Curtis Institute of Music; Northwestern University; Penn State University; Rutgers University; University of California, San Diego; University of California, Santa Cruz; University of Colorado, Boulder; University of Rochester; University of Minnesota, Twin Cities; University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; University of Wisconsin, Madison
