Oakland (Calif.) school superintendent Tony Smith will leave the job in June, an out-of-the-blue resignation that shocked staff and school board members. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Smith and his family will be moving to Chicago to be closer to his wife’s parents, who are facing heath problems.Smith was named superintendent in 2009 as Oakland Unified was dealing with the financial disarray that led to a state takeover in 2003.
