April 12, 2013
The union for teachers in the Los Angeles Unified School District has issued an overwhelming vote of no-confidence in the leadership of Superintendent John Deasy as he finishes his second year. The Los Angeles Daily News says the poll by United Teachers Los Angeles resulted in 16,040 union members expressing displeasure with Deasy, and 1,647 saying they had confidence in his direction for the school system. Meanwhile, a rival survey released by civil rights groups showed strong support for Deasy's reform strategies and called for an even more aggressive approach to improving student achievement.
