L.A. board votes to keep classroom breakfast program

The Los Angeles Unified School Board has agreed to keep operating a classroom breakfast program and to pay for more school police. The Los Angeles Times reports that the board voted unanimously to keep the breakfast program, which feeds more than 2,000 students in about 290 schools across the district. Teachers union members had said that if such issues as food messes and interrupted instructional time were not addressed, they would be in favor of eliminating the program. But the program had high-profile support from workers, parents and mayoral candidate Wendy Greuel.
