Elementary school closes for good in Baltimore County, Md.

June 17, 2013
County officials have a plan to convert Eastwood Center Elementary Magnet School to a police station.

Eastwood Center Elementary Magnet School near Dundalk in southeastern Baltimore County, Md., has closed for good after 50 years. The Baltimore Sun says the closure is a result of Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz's efforts to sell off county-owned property to save taxpayers money. He wants private developers to buy the North Point Government Center and move the police station housed there to the closed school building. Parents and members of the community have expressed anger that the decision to close Eastwood was made so quickly.
