After being considered as sites for new high-rise apartment buildings, two public schools in New York City near Lincoln Center have been saved from the wrecker’s ball. The New York Times reports that city education officials say Public Schools 191 and 199 will not be torn down and offered to developers. The city says it will proceed with plans to develop a site on East 96th Street that is home to the School of Cooperative Technical Education, a vocational high school.
