Chicago district seeks proposals for more charter schools

Aug. 14, 2013
Call for additional charters comes despite the closure of 50 elementary schools.

Despite budget cuts and a record number of school closings, the Chicago school district has issued a call for new charter schools. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the system has posted a 52-page document on its website that seeks new charter operators and campuses for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 school years. Chicago is looking to add charters mainly in 11 so-called “priority communities” on the Northwest and Southwest Sides where many district-run schools are over capacity.
