The University of California, San Diego has received a $7.2 million check from a local utility company for carrying out numerous energy-efficiency projects on campus. San Diego Gas & Electric says the university initiated 30 energy efficiency projects from 2010 to 2012. The efforts have saved the equivalent of removing more than 5,000 cars off the road, powering nearly 4,000 homes for a year, and preventing the emission of more than 25,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide into our atmosphere.
