26 charter proposals win approval to open in North Carolina next year

If all schools open in 2014 as proposed, the state would have 155 charter schools.

The North Carolina State Board of Education has given preliminary approval for 26 new charter schools to open in 2014. The Raleigh News & Observer says among the schools that received approval are nine in Mecklenburg County and four in Wake County. If all 26 new schools open in 2014, it would bring the number of charter schools in the state to 155; 25 would be in Mecklenburg County and 19 in Wake County.
