The GEMS World Academy program operates private schools in China, Egypt, India, Kenya and beyond, and next year it is scheduled to open its first U.S. campus in downtown Chicago. DNAinfo Chicago says tuition for a kindergarten student will be $32,000 a year; for fifth-grade students, the cost is $37,000 a year. In 2015, GEMS plans to open a junior high school and high school building; eventually, GEMS World Academy-Chicago hopes to enroll more than 2,000 students in the K-12 program.
