The Grand Rapids school district will be the first in Michigan to host a Green Schools Fellow to transform the environments in which children learn. The Grand Rapids Press says the program calls for the U.S. Green Building Council to hire and train an individual to act as a green champion within the school district for three years. The fellow is scheduled to begin work in 2014-15 The district and the council are working collaboratively to seek grants and other funding to cover the $275,000 necessary for salary, benefits and training.
