2 Philadelphia charter schools fail to receive renewals

Two Philadelphia charter schools founded by a woman now on trial on fraud charges have failed to have their charters renewed. The Philadelphia Inquirer says Laboratory Charter School and Planet Abacus have been operating without charters for more than a year. The schools perform well academically, but district officials have raised concerns about finances and administration. Dorothy June Brown, the founder of both, is on trial in federal court on fraud charges.
