The Crown Point (Ind.) district has begun work on a $77.35 million Robert A. Taft Middle School in Winfield.
The new school will serve about 1,400 students, which is 300 more than the existing middle school. The new facility will feature classrooms equipped with 70- to 80-inch interactive video monitors, a television studio, an enlarged library and media center, as well as a main and auxiliary gymnasium, reports The Northwest Indiana Times.
The campus also includes space for cross country, practice fields for football, a football and track field, baseball and softball fields, tennis courts, a flex practice field, a pond and an outdoor challenge learning lab, a presentation for the project shows.
The new middle school is a one of several expansion projects planned by the district slated to cost $214.5 million. Improvements are planned at Crown Point High School and MacArthur and Timothy Ball elementary schools.
Construction of the middle school is set to be completed by fall 2023.
The other expansion projects are slated to be complete by December 2024.
