The Napa Valley (Calif.) district is expanding American Canyon Middle School campus in American Canyon.
The $14.3 million project will upgrade the student commons and several other spaces, reports The American Canyon Eagle.
The planned improvements include a new library, an open-air amphitheater, performing arts space, a cafeteria/multiuse room, and an open space with a basketball court.
The student commons area will have a kitchen and dining hall and be able to host performances. An innovation center connected to the library will serve as a flexible space.
The district approved the addition of a student commons at the American Canyon campus in 2020, one year after it cancelled plans for a second middle school. The school board halted the $45 million project after deciding the district could not afford the $2.2 million annual cost of operating the campus,
