6-year-old boy in Missouri dies after being struck by the school bus he had been riding
A first-grade student from Missouri has died after being struck by a school bus he had just exited.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the 6-year-old boy was a student at Plattin Primary School near Festus in the Jefferson R-7 School District.
He had just gotten off a school bus Tuesday afternoon near Festus, and as the vehicle was pulling away with other students aboard, it struck the boy, the Missouri Highway Patrol said.
The boy was subsequently identified as Damon Rice, according to a Go Fund Me account set up for his family.
Tuesday was the last day of school before winter break in the district.
“This morning we were singing Christmas carols together,” said Superintendent Clint Johnston. “This is a bad day; it’s a bad day for our school, it’s a bad day for our community. We’re hurting.”
Damon was one of about 240 students attending Plattin Primary School.
